Today, I was sent a link to an article about the meaning of the sixth commandment:

I think most Christians know this, or get the gist of this so I’m not going to get into the depths of that particular discussion right now.

Lately, I’ve been making a disgusting habit of reading below the fold into the comments section on some of these sites. Any news or “news” site that has any biblical references, hell, even ones that don’t, have a growing group of commenters that do one of two things:

1.) Endorse or pussy foot around the endorsement of what I’ll call “Luciferian” or “Illuminati” views (As organizations that may exist whom are dedicated to man at the center of intellectual higher thought) to get a label on it.

or

2.) Copy and paste an argument that claims to be “true” or contain a “truth.” For full effect there must also be capital letters in the post. Note: this truth always equals “God is a lie,” “aliens done it,” or, “God is real, but look two degrees this way.” IE: mostly nonsense.

The “two degrees this way” arguments are the ones that usually kick young or new christians in the jewels. Things like “Jesus was killed on a torture stake,” “Egyptians did it first,” or “anointing oil is semen.” Most of the time their evidence is written by people who wrote books about the same thing just one hundred or so years ago with little or no evidence and jump to radical conclusions (Books are the old timey internet). Again, just nonsense.

With this article, the first three comments had both categories already. I took the liberty of copying one by a “Jason P” here:

“The problem I have, Dennis, is that your interpretation makes the commandment circular. “Thou shall not murder” means “thou shall not kill against the law” because murder means killing against the law (moral law, God’s law, or man’s law). If the commandment is the law it says nothing more than don’t kill when you shouldn’t kill. As a law that’s inadequate.

In Exodus 32 Moses comes down from the mount and sees the worship of the Golden Calf. He orders the ritualist slaughter as punishment: “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.’ The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died.” (Exodus 32:27-28)

Thus the commandment is “don’t kill unless God so says.” This is circular, it changes throughout the OT, it is nothing but God’s whim, and it gives us no guidance. This is why “natural law” and “natural right” replaced God’s arbitrary commandments in the 17th and 18th century philosophical movements. After the Thirty Years War, the most vicious war in Western history, it was clear that His word could never settle human affairs but only led to the most brutal slaughter ever known to man. This religious war led thinkers to seek natural grounds for moral law. Grotius, Locke, and Jefferson followed the logic to its conclusion. It culminated to the Declaration of Independence.”

 

This is a mix between “Illuminati” brand trite philosophy and two degrees this way. (There was even a cut and paste two degrees this way CAPZIZFORATENSIONS!!!1! response in another comment. Today is truly double blessing Tuesday!)

In response to Jason P, I wrote:

“Irregardless of whether it [the commandment] says kill or murder the purpose of God’s law was to expose our evils for what they truly are, show that humanity was a broken creature without His guidance, not to follow to the letter. That is impossible, especially if we take Jesus’ guidance on the ten commandments into account. We are all guilty of murder, every human, according to Christ.

The commandments show us that we need God, so that we will lean on him rather than trust our own baseless instincts.

Using the thirty years war, really any conflict that has Catholicism as one of the belligerents is laughable at best. The Catholic Church, in no way, shape, or form represents Christ or Christianity. They are a worldly organization with a raging hard on for temporal power. They distort the meaning of everything God has done or will do, to the point of blatant disregard for the word altogether in pursuit of that temporal power. The greatest atrocities of mankind were instigated or facilitated by the Catholic Church and they have remained the stoker of anti-semitic fervor since their inception. Anti-Semitism is to be against God himself.

The Declaration of Independence is not the basis of law in our country, the Constitution is. People would do well to remember that because they are two very different documents. Jefferson and his “illuminated” cronies have helped pave the way from the morality of the living God’s law to a law of moral relativism that uses the same tactics as the Catholic Church to lead people into subjugation through ignorance by containing the power within an elect group. That last bit is “modern” European history in a nutshell.”

My comment was submitted, awaited moderation, and then was deleted. I’m assuming because of my anti-Catholic stance. Perhaps I should have put “some of the greatest atrocities…” because they weren’t around for awhile.

The Catholic Church is, more or less, the public face of Christianity whether we want it to be or not. Even to those who know that there is a difference between the Prostestant and Catholic churches still think that the Catholic Church is fundamentally Christian. Catholics are not Christians. Learn about it.

Anyway, since my comment was exploded away into oblivion, I wanted to post it here as I thought my response was important to the comment, the article, and important to highlight this growing trend of disinformation.
